Limang Local Government Unit (LGU) sa Western Visayas ang napabilang sa listahan ng progresibong mga bayan at lungsod matapos manalo sa iilang bahagi ng Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index o CMCI nitong ika-sampong CMC Summit at Awarding Ceremony na ginanap sa Philippine International Convention Center sa Pasay City nitong nakaraang Huwebes, Oktubre 20, 2022.
Ayon kay Mrs. Ermelinda Pollentes, Officer-in- Charger, Regional Director ng Trade and Industry Western Visayas, isang karangalan ang mapabilang sa mga kinilalang LGU na pumasa sa competitiveness pillars ng CMCI na economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, at innovation.
Aniya “This will serve as a magnet to investors in the said LGU that has improved its productivity as a location. Improving productivity allows the LGU to improve the standard of living of its constituents, which results to prosperity.”
Ang Iloilo City ay idineklarang ika-pitong competitive highly urbanized cities (HUC) habang ang San Lorenzo sa Guimaras ay nagwagi bilang most competitive LGU sa fifth at sixth class category.
Ang lungsod ay kinilala bilang most improved HUC at nanguna sa government efficiency, pangatlo sa resiliency, at pang-pito sa infrastructure habang ang bayan ng San Lorenzo ay pumapangalawa sa innovation, pang-apat sa infrastructure at economic dynamism, at pang-anim naman sa most improved LGU.
Ikinatuwa naman ito ni Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, sa kanyang facebook post, aniya, “We are happy to share that Iloilo City continues to make a name in progress as we ranked seventh for the overall most competitive highly urbanized city in the entire country and the highest among the Visayas cities.”
Nagwagi din ang tatlo pang mga LGU sa rehiyon, ito ay ang bayan ng Leganes at Lambunao sa lalawigan ng Iloilo, at ang Bacolod City.
Pangatlo ang bayan ng Leganes sa infrastructure pillar para sa third- to fourth-class municipality, nakuha naman ng Lambunao ang third place sa innovation pillar para sa first- to second-class category, habang nasungkit naman ng Bacolod City ang most competitive city sa innovation pillar sa HUC category.
Ang CMCI ay taunang isinasagawa sa buong bansa sa pamamagitan ng National Competitiveness Council at Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) sa tulong ng United States Agency for International Development.
