“Gutom ko kuya.” These are the first words of the “Boy in the Ref” as many people call him in this photo when he saw the rescuers.

SFO2 Romulo G. Mascarinas an organic personnel in Baybay City fire station then asks the boy as he offered water to him, “Kinsa imo kuyog kuya?” The boy then softly replied with a blank expression in his eyes “Ako na lang, wala na koy kauban.”

SFO2 Mascariñas with a heavy heart then continues pushing him inside the refrigerator with a member of PCG to a safer place.

An unavoidable thoughts of SFO2 Mascariñas while on duty are also on his family’s safety whose village is also affected by flashflood in Baybay City just like most of the rescuers.

This child is only one of many who lost their parents and family during the Tropical Storm Agaton.
