AFTER almost seven months, 3,199 residents from Sipalay City, Negros Occidental who lost their homes during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in December last year received P15 million in financial aid yesterday, June 10 from the provincial government.
Barangay Gil Montilla has the greatest number of recipients with 648 residents. The distribution was conducted simultaneously at the city’s gymnasium and as well as at the Gil Montilla and Mambaroto covered courts, where each recipient received P5,000.
It is part of the Special Emergency Housing Assistance Program of the National Housing Authority (NHA). The agency allotted at least P91 million for those residents whose houses were destroyed by the typhoon.
Sixth District Board Member Jeffrey Tubola said the distribution at Sipalay City yesterday was already the third tranche. Earlier, the Sipalay City government and the provincial government already distributed aides to residents affected by the typhoon.
So far, the NHA and the provincial government have already distributed P37 million in Kabankalan City and P14 million each in the municipalities of Ilog and Isabela. Residents who were affected by the typhoon in Cauayan town will also receive financial aid on Tuesday, June 14.
